The Berkeley Center for Structural Biology (http://bcsb.lbl.gov/) is 
seeking a motivated, enthusiastic computing expert. You will work as a 
member of a team that operates five macromolecular crystallography 
beamlines at the Advanced Light Source in Berkeley. Duties include the 
maintenance of computing hardware, installation of crystallographic 
applications, and the development of beamline control software.

Duties: Essential - Maintain Linux computing systems (installing 
operating systems, managing user accounts, installing software, 
replacing disk drives and other routine maintenance tasks). Develop and 
maintain beamline control code using Java/Jython. Develop and maintain 
interface code for electrical control systems. Develop and maintain 
group web pages. Marginal - Configure LDAP authentication on Linux and 
other platforms. Develop applications using the Python scripting language.

Qualifications: Essential - B.S. Degree or higher in electrical 
engineering, computer science, biophysics, physics or related field 
preferred or equivalent experience, with minimum of two years of 
programming experience. Experience maintaining computing hardware and 
software, installation and upgrading operating systems, and installing 
user software. Knowledge of standard programming methods, and Java in  a 
UNIX environment. Experience with writing and maintaining HTML web 
pages. Strong analytical and organizational skills. Ability to handle 
multiple tasks in parallel. Excellent interpersonal skills for working 
in a diverse team environment, ability to interact effectively with 
users and staff, and to address their needs in an effective and timely 
manner.

Notes: This is a one year Term appointment, with the possibility of 
renewal under the same conditions contingent upon the continued 
availability of funding and work.
