thanks to those who passed on the information about evrouter-
it's great!
I got a Logitech mouse with a wacky-looking left-right mouse-wheel
function that was supposed to be useful for horizontal scrolling
through wide spreadheets and the like.

I never thought I'd use this feature until you folks described what
you were doing with powermates. I mapped the left/right controls of
the mouse wheel to perform the Left/Right keyboard keys, which is
useful (for example) in tor_residue or move_zone after you select the
active menu with the up/down scroll action of the wheel. If you have
one of these mice (and they seem quite common), an example .evrouterrc
file is below.
