Seconded. The ATI proprietary driver has had (and probably continues to have) amazing bugs that just kill the whole machine (when doing Very Unusual And Unexpectable things such as going to text mode with Ctrl-Alt- Fsomething and coming back with Alt-F7). Not that I like the nVidia proprietary driver much either, but at least showstoppers don't seem to be quite such a frequent occurrence with it. I've had good experiences with the Xi Graphics driver, but unfortunately it's not supported on anything from nVidia, only on outdated stuff from ATI, and just about the only modern things it supports are Matrox... -- Atro Tossavainen (Mr.) / The Institute of Biotechnology at Systems Analyst, Techno-Amish & / the University of Helsinki, Finland, +358-9-19158939 UNIX Dinosaur / employs me, but my opinions are my own. < URL : http : / / www . helsinki . fi / %7E atossava / > NO FILE ATTACHMENTS _______________________________________________ o-info mailing list (moderated) o-info@o-info.bioxray.dk http://o-info.bioxray.dk/mailman/listinfo/o-info
