Dear O users, following Alwyn's suggestion I'm trying to see if someone's had a similar problem (...and hopefully a solution!): I'm working on a Linux (Linux 2.6.9-42.0.3.ELsmp i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux) CentOS4.4 machine, two 3GHz Pentium D processors, 3.5Gb memory (4Gb swap), plenty of free hard disk space. Basically the problem is that the computer freezes drastically and unfortunately I really haven't been able to reproduce the event, which happens often. These crashes only happen when O is running, and more so if I've opened several Unix windows and/or if I'm toggling a lot by stopping O, going back to the Unix window and coming back by fg. The machine doesn't freeze immediately after starting O, but, I would say, after a couple of hours or so.... I'm not sure at all if O is the cause of the problem, or is only revealing some other inconsistency dealing with X server, graphics card/driver, etc etc We've done a lot of unsuccessful trials focusing on ATI drivers and kernel release. I've been using O for several years, never had this problem before. Some differences with my previous (happy) experience working with a very very similar environment (CentOS blah blah): * I am now using an ATI RadeonX600 graphics card, 256MByte, proprietary driver v8.30.03 (before I always worked with Nvidia) * I am now using lin_ono v11.0.0 (before I was on 9) Could there be some type of "incompatability" with the X server (which for CentOS4.4 is one 6.8.x release; although I know X 7.x.x is already available)? Any help will be "desperately" useful...
