I do have a "crystallographic" PC with "only" PCIExpress Quadro NVS280, and I'm happy with it. Even the "low-end" Nvidia graphics cards nowadays are fast enough for 3D graphics in O (and any other scientific visualisation software, I believe), if the (propietary) NVIDIA driver is used. Provocatively, I'd say that a high-end graphics card will only be marginally better than low-end. Of course, Stereo (in Linux) is only available with Quadro cards.
