this was meant for moving things like arrows .... made with ODL graphics
instructions so i hard wired the the pivot. in the case of aligning 2
strucutres, i would use the lSQ_* commands to get an operator, then apply
the transformation to the object

you are stuck with them for now. the mouse has (i think) much better
control of the image in 6.x compared to 5.x. as i've reported previously,
we've been working on cheap dial replacements which would also replace the
fake dials menu. the nintendo does not quite make it so in the new year
we'll try another system. in ov6.2 there are more grab commands that use
the mouse instead of dials. the main commands that still need dials are
then lego_side, torsions. for these, the user will be able to use the arrow
keys on the keyboard
