Hi. What machine to buy? Well, the SGI sales people said that they aim the indigo 2 solid impact etc. towards scientific visualisation like X-ray crystallography etc, and the O2 to less power-hungry high-quality graphics such as television production or high-end desktop publishing, or architectural 3D models. They even said that the standard O2 graphics would get out of breath if you're plannig to animate a loth, and presented a graphics board option aimed towards those applications. This was a couple of months ago, on a big show with free dinner (very tastefull stuff, SGI is good at PR) here in Berlin, so things might have changed by now. I think it is just a matter of the amount of money you can spend. But do remember that the good-looking pictures take some time to render. They also presented the new onyx 2 on the show. Wouldn't it be nice to have O running on that machine. I hope this helps. Do remember that this is influenced by the free dinner.
